Gulf Film Festival Honours Gcc Film Legends

The Gulf Film Festival (GFF) today announced the inaugural edition of the Festival will honour UAE’s Ali Al Abdool and Kuwait’s Abdul Hussain Abdul Redha and Saad al Faraj for their outstanding contribution to the regional film industry.   

The three stalwarts will be recognised for their work at an awards ceremony on the 18 of April. The tribute aims to annually celebrate the distinguished work of film makers from the UAE and the gulf region.

Masoud Amralla Al Ali, Festival Director of GFF: “The presence of these artists will further our mission to celebrate the art of cinema and confirm the festival as a forum that celebrates regional talent. This initiative also furthers our objective of inspiring an emerging generation of film makers, who we believe will take the industry to new levels of growth.”

Considered one of the first TV Directors from the UAE, Ali Al Abdool is the creative genius behind the video clips of many of Arab world’s renowned singing talent including Ahlam, Diana Haddad, Abdulla Al Ruwished, Abdulla Belkhair, Mohamed Al Mazim, Mehad Hamad, Mohamed Al Buloushi, Rashid Al Majed and many more.

Saad Al Faraj, the famous Kuwaiti actor is one of the major contributors to the drama movement in Kuwait. He has written several books on the evolution of performing arts in Kuwait and received various national, regional and international awards including the pioneer’s award at the Arab Pioneers Festival in 1999. He has recently been appointed as a drama advisor on Kuwait television (KTV). Some of his famous works include Bas Ya Bahr (1971) and Short Trip (1974).

Abdul Hussain Abdul Redha is a legendry actor from Kuwait recognised across the GCC for his vast body of work. Regarded as one of the most famous actors in the GCC region, Abdul Hussain Abdul Redha ruled the charts in the 70’s and 80’s with a series of well crafted theatre plays and TV series. Darb Al Zalk, one of his well known TV series continues to be rated amongst the best in the gulf region. In his existing capacity, Abdul Hussain Abdul Redha manages “Funoun”, the first dedicated comedy broadcast channel in the Arab region.

GFF will pay tribute to the honourees during the inaugural edition of the Gulf Film Festival, which will run from 13-18 April 2008 at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre at the Mall of Emirates.
