Red Carpet at Award Ceremony Glitters with GCC Talent
His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is scheduled to attend the closing night ceremony of the inaugural Gulf Film Festival (GFF). The week long event comes to a close tomorrow with an awards ceremony to acknowledge and honor the best in local and regional cinema.
The closing night presentations will be held at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Center in the presence of visiting talent, various dignitaries and society heads. The ceremony will see various GCC stars grace the red carpet including Abdulhussain Abdulretha, Saad al Faraj, Mohammed Al Mansour and Zahra Arafat from Kuwait. Abdulla Abdullmalik, Shaima Sabt, Fatima Abdul Rahim, Haifa Hussain and Anwar Ahmed from Bahrain. Abdul Aziz Jassim from Qatar and Saleh Za'al from Oman.
UAE talents include Ali Al Abdool, recipient of this year’s honoree award, Dr. Habib Ghulum, Maryam Sultan, Samira Ahmad and Jaber Nagmossh Bilal Abdulla, Moza Al Mazrouhi amongst many others.
The Festival’s esteemed jury comprising Egyptian director Daoud Abdel Sayed, Iraqi film critic Mr. Erfan Rashid,; Omani filmmaker and critic Abdullah Habib; UAE actor Ahmed Al Jasmi and Nadira Ardjoun, co-organiser of the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival will choose the top three prizes in the categories of feature, shorts and documentary in the Official Competition, as well as short and documentary in the Students’ Competition.
A separate jury comprising Kuwaiti novelist Ismail Fahad Ismail, scriptwriter Rashid al-Jobar from Bahrain, and writer/director Naji al Hai from the UAE will award prizes in the Emirates Script Competition.
The 6 day cultural event gave film enthusiasts an opportunity to view a diverse selection of movies from the GCC and beyond. A total of 146 films from 25 countries were screened at the Festival.
