Script Competition



The 2010 edition of GFF will continue to present a competition for scriptwriters and filmmakers from the UAE for short films.

1. ELIGIBILITY FOR SUBMISSION:

A- General Eligibility

(i) The script must be written by a scriptwriter or filmmaker of UAE nationality.
(ii) Entry scripts must be the original work of a sole author or collaboration between two writers and they must be submitted in Arabic.
(iii) Scripts must be the original work of the applicant(s). If based upon another individual’s life, the applicant(s) must attach a statement attesting the author(s)’ rights to make such adaptations.
(iv) The script must be registered copyrighted material.
(v) The script must be the basis of a film that requires shooting or filming in the UAE.
(vi) The script must not have been previously selected, purchased or produced.
(vii) Entrants may submit a maximum of two scripts.
(xiv) The winning scripts must be produced and the film originating from said winning script must be submitted to the Fourth Edition of the GFF before February 1, 2011. In case the film is not ready for the Fourth Edition of the GFF, then it should be submitted once finished to the subsequent edition of GFF.

2. JURY:

GFF will solely appoint 3 jury members from the Arab film community to decide on the prize winners.

3. AWARDS & PRIZE MONEY:

There will be 3 cash prize for the Script Competition for Emirati Short Films: First Prize – AED 50,000; Second Prize – AED 40,000 and Third Prize – AED 30,000.
Note: All prize money must be allocated for the production of the film in the UAE.
An entrant will not win more than one prize.

4. SUBMISSION:

There is no entry fee to submit a film for the Gulf Film Festival.

Deadlines:

Entries must be submitted before February 25, 2010. Any submission received after the above deadline will not be accepted.

Submitted Material:

(i) Scripts and Submission Forms will be accepted only by E-MAIL sent to submissions@tecom.ae and must be in PDF or RTF format. Submitted scripts will not be returned.
(ii) Scripts must be a narrative short length of approximately 30 pages and must be numbered.
(iii) Scripts must be in 14-point Simplified Arabic font.
(iv) Scripts cover page must be plain white and contains the title only (do not include the applicant’s name, contact info and/or copyright registration number).

5. ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND UNDERTAKING:

Participation in GFF Script Competition for Emirati Short Films and signature of the GFF Submission Form implies acceptance of these Regulations. It is the responsibility of the writers or other authorized representatives submitting a script to ensure that they are lawfully entitled to enter a script in the GFF. Submission of a script and signature by the writer’s authorized representative of the GFF Submission Form signifies full agreement with, and consent to, these Regulations.

8. ADDITIONALTERMS:

Anti-Piracy Precautions:

GFF endeavors to take all possible anti-piracy precautions. All scripts and associated copyrighted materials will be securely stored while on GFF premises. GFF is not responsible for scripts or coverage stolen or lost in transit.

Release of the Film:

All winning scripts at the Script Competition for Emirati Short Films must mention: “Supported by Gulf Film Festival” along with the GFF logo at the beginning or end credits.

Festival Management’s Discretion:

The GFF Management will decide in its discretion on all issues and matters not foreseen by these Regulations. GFF Management further retains the right to permit exceptions to the application of these Regulations at any time in its discretion.
