JuryThe Gulf Film Festival has appointed a jury selected from the international and Arab film communities to decide on prize winners for each of the categories in the GFF Competition. The Film Competition Jury comprises 5 members and the Script Competition Jury comprises 3 members. FILM JURY Abdullah Habib Abdullah Habib has a Ph.D. ABD in Film Critical Studies from UCLA. He has taught courses on “Orientalism and Film”, “Third World Cinema”, “Film and Social Change” and “History of Latin American, African and Asian Cinema” in the United States and New Zealand. He has won a Silver Prize from the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation for ceci’nest pas une pipe and is a recipient of the Jack Shaheen Scholarship for Media Studies from the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, USA and the Chancellor’s Fellowship, UCLA. He is also a published author of short stories and poems. Daoud Abdel Sayed Daoud Abdel Sayed studied cinema at the Institute of Cinema. After a series of short fiction and documentary films, he made his first feature, Al Sa’alik (Hoodlums). His other film credits include Al Baths, Al Sayyid Marzuk, Kit Kat, Ard El Ahlam, Sarek Al Farah and Ard Al Khof. His recent film, Mowaten We Mokhber We Haramy was a festival favourite regionally and internationally. Nadira Ardjoun Nadira Ardjoun has been co-organising the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival since 1985. She has also been developing exchanges and collaborations with the Arab world. She has a Master’s in English and is also an English teacher. Ahmed Al Jasmi Ahmed Al Jasmi began his career with the Ajman National Theatre. He was a manager with the Sharjah National Theatre Troupe and participated in a number of conferences and theatre and TV workshops. He won the Best Actor Award at the Carthage Theatre Festival for his performance in Bu Hameda Café. He has also worked with a number of renowned Arab directors such as Bahr Khazim, Fuad Al Shati, Farouq Ohan, Yahya Al Haj, Abdel Illah Abdul Kader, Jawad Al Asedi and Al Munji bin Ibrahim. His portfolio includes Oedipus Rex, Let Me Pass, Oh Elephant King of Time, Adventure of Mamluk Jaber’s Head and The Return of Holagu and Boom's Owner. He has served as a Jury member in numerous competitions. Erfan Rashid Erfan Rashid is a journalist and director. He graduated in Theatre from the Academy of Arts in Baghdad and has authored a number of documentaries in Arabic, English and Italian. He is a consultant for many festivals and cultural events in Italy and other Arab countries. He was the editor of the Italian channel Rai Med and editor-in-chief of the Arabic desk of Adn Kronos International. He has collaborated with Al Hurra TV, France 24 (Arabic), Deutche Welle and Radio Montecarlo. He is currently the Italian correspondent for Al Hayat LBC and Al Bayan (Dubai). He is also the Artistic Director of the festival “Mare di Cinema Arabo” in Messina, Italy and President of the cultural association “Tammuz Verba Manent”. SCRIPT JURY Rashed Hasan Al Jawdar Rashed Hasan Al Jawdar is the Head of Writers in Bahrain TV. He has worked with Bahrain TV in various capacities ranging from heading the cultural programme department, supervising the video department and writing. He has a Literature Diploma in Philosophy and Psychology from Beirut Arabian University and numerous certificates in writing, scripting, TV directing, human rights and legal responsibilities for media specialists. He is the Founder Member of the National Culture Forum and the Future Cultural Society. He has served on many juries and committees. He is also the recipient of a number of awards such as the Silver Medal and Gold Medal from the Cairo Festival, Tunis Festival and GCC TV Production Festival. Naji Al Hai Naji Al Hai is the UAE’s Assistant Deputy Minister for Social Development in the Ministry of Social Affairs. He is also the Chairman of the Arts Theatre for Youth and an avid theatre writer and director. As an actor, he has performed in more than 12 plays across the UAE’s theatres. As a writer, he has scripted 6 plays and as a director he has more than 20 plays to his credit. He has participated in numerous festivals across the region and has been recognised and honoured for his talents as a writer, director and actor. Ismail Fahad Ismail |
