JuryFilm Competition JuryAbdellatif Abdelhamid Abdellatif Abdelhamid is the 2009 GFF Jury President. He is one of Syria's most prominent film directors and a recognised name in the Arab world, having earned numerous accolades at the Damascus International Film Festival, the Carthage Film Festival and Rabat International Film Festival. Marei AlHalyan Marei AlHalyan is an award-winning Emirati journalist, theatre director and actor. He is the Director of the Sharjah Modern Theatre and cultural affairs writer for Al Bayan newspaper. He has also written and directed many theatrical plays that have been staged around the Gulf, many of which have won awards. Abdul Sattar Naji Kuwaiti journalist, film critic and film jurist Abdul Sattar Naji is the Managing Editor of Lana magazine and a member of the prestigious International Federation of Film Critics. He has been a juror at the Carthage Theatre Festival, the Damascus and Hong Kong Film Festivals and the Cannes Festival of TV and Documentaries. Bashar Ibrahem Bashar Ibrahem is a Palestinian writer, film critic and producer based in the United Arab Emirates. His books on Arab film criticism have contributed to the understanding and study of Arab cinema as a serious art form. He has produced a number of documentaries for Al Jazeera. Ziad Khuzai Ziad Khuzai is an Iraqi author and film critic based in the United Kingdom. He has been prominent in the founding of the first festival of Arab cinema in the UK, organised in collaboration with the National Film Theatre. A prominent writer, Khuzai also served as Chairman of the Jury of the first Independent Arab Film Festival. Script Competition JuryMahmoud Abou Al Abbas Mahmoud Abou al Abbas is an Iraqi theatre director, actor, writer and author based in the UAE. He heads the Dibba Theatre in Fujairah. He is also the Art Director of the Children’s Theatre Festival in Sharjah and the Al Ain Theatre. Amin Saleh Amin Saleh has written short stories, poetry and works for the theatre. He wrote the first Bahraini feature, “The Barrier.” His theatrical works have been extensively published and he has written numerous television programmes. He is based in Bahrain. Ibrahim Mubarak Ibrahim Mubarak is an Emirati writer who has published many short stories and is an authority on the literary output of the Emirates. He remains devoted to Emirati identity and preserving the cultural legacy of the traditional Emirati way of life. |
